The @ddhammocks #ddfrontlinehammock alternative setup. (The Braid)
The DD Frontline hammock is a truely exceptional piece of kit. Versatile and strong with a breathable membrane base, features a bug net that would make Gary McKinnon proud and a separate compartment for an underblanket, for colder nights.
This comes standard with a strong rope either end for setup. Both members of EKB however prefer to remove these ropes and instead, run a (rock climbing grade) Carabiner through each rope attachment sleeve.
From here, enter the tree-hugger. No, not the stereotypical hippy of old, but a strong and hard wearing strap with a generous number of eyelets running down the length of one side, with a singular eyelet on the other.
Setup from here is easy, wrap the tree hugger around the tree, and pull the end with many eyelets through the one eyelet on the other side, pull tight, attach your hammock to whichever eyelet fits the desired height, do the same on with the other end of the hammock, and Robert is your father's brother.
This benefits three ways.
Your weight on the hammock only increases the grip on the tree, as there is no knot (hence no possibility of error). You can attach another D ring between the tree hugger and (let's call it the) hammock ring, effectively eliminating pesky rainwater running down the line and reaching your tootsies.
It makes setup insanely fast and simple-stupid. Simple-stupid = foolproof.
We both picked up the iRainy Hammock Straps for £14.49 and the Freskaro auto-lock Carabiner (pack of two) for £13.00 from Amazon.
