how quick we are to run back to our own egypt after being rescued and set free from the desert land. how quick we forget just how heavy the burden and how suffocating the misery was during our time of slavery. how we couldn’t wait to be set free from those heavy chains of porn addiction, drug addiction, alcoholism, sex, the constant desire for more and more never actually being enough, anger and bitterness that had a death grip on us and every second of everyday consumed by our flesh leaving us dead and ashamed. egypt — the place of misery and the very place we couldn’t wait to leave. yet how often we find ourselves craving to go back to the familiarity of the misery. have you ever noticed how we start to crave the past when the future is full of uncertainty or the journey to the promise land isn’t full of constant mountain tops? how after seeing God do radical things in and through us and all around us — somehow a part of us craves to run back to egypt... LIKE WHAT?! what is wrong with us!! why is it we want to accompany misery only to get wrapped up in the same heavy chains and become enslaved once again? the past is so good at making us believe it wasn’t really as bad as it was but the reality is, it was so much worse than we remember. the past that was filled with heartache and misery somehow whispers and draws us back in, wrapping us in those heavy chains and landing us back in our dreadful egypt. we find ourselves longing for the left- behind - less - thans instead of holding out hope for the best- that’s- yet- to - come. y’all, we m u s t stand firm and stay on guard as we’re making our way to the promise land because truth is, the past is comforting only because we know what’s awaiting us but just because it’s comfortable doesn’t mean it’s best for us. oh, what a battle it is to crave freedom and then start to fear the unknown that freedom actually brings. the past is not where we belong — so, let us not slowly make our way back there. God in His goodness has rescued us, broken the chains, and given us a way out so that we can live a life of freedom where we experience J🌻Y!
